I have provided psychotherapeutic services since 1992 in such areas as
My orientation to treatment is primarily a combination of what is called Family Systems, Family of Origin Therapy, and Object Relations Therapy. The integration of these approaches means that I pay attention both to how individuals are structured internally, as well as to the interactive systems within which they live and from which they came. By looking at these different levels patients can explore the difficulties that bring them to therapy and find some ways to help them resolve those difficulties and to have a more productive and rewarding life. I see my role to be that of a "coach," one who challenges old behaviors and ideas, suggests new possibilities of behavior, and provides an environment in which risks can be more safely taken.
Before beginning my career in therapy, I spent seventeen years as a marketing executive. I have created and currently head a number of small businesses in addition to my therapy practice. As a commercial/instrument rated seaplane pilot I run a charter plane service, flying people all over the Northwest to fish in the wilderness, to experience the beautiful Northwest sights from the air, or to have tea at the Empress Hotel in elegant Victoria, Canada.
My experience enhances my ability to offer professional and business clients therapy that is:
I am also a ski instructor, working with individuals and taking groups to destinations around the world. I began this career at the age of sixteen. In my early twenties, I was selected to participate on the U.S. Demo Ski Team by the Professional Ski Instructor's of America (PSIA) Only ten instructors are asked to participate on the Demo Ski Team from all over the United States for a four year term. During that time I also served as the Vice President of PSIA and was responsible for writing and updating the ski manuals for PSIA instructors.
A member of PSIA for thirty-four years, I have been a member of the organization's Sports Psychology Committee and a six-year delegate to the Austrian International School. I have worked with top firms, hosting Corporate Skiing Seminars held in Sun Valley, Idaho. I have coached and guided executives through the process of self-discovery on the slopes and led them to a greater recognition of their goals and abilities.
My approach to skiing instruction stresses a creative awareness of the mind/body connection and the ways in which physical effort can enhance mental ability. The elements of skiing--quickness, endurance, timing, power, balance, and flexibility--are clearly related to business performance. The connections are not just recognizable, but become a catalyst for motivation and meaningful, pragmatic change.
I received my MA, ABS in applied behavioral sciences from Bastyr University, in Seattle Washington. I am a King County designated "Child Mental Health Specialist." In addition, I have a MBA in Finance and Marketing from Seattle University in Seattle, Washington.
